Maria Immacolata Catholic School has educated generations of families in the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux for over a half century. However, despite its history and very strong legacy, over the last several years the student enrollment and economic vitality of the school have fallen to a level that is no longer sustainable.

In comparison to statewide results, the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux has yet again exceeded the state average in all areas, and have increased as a diocese in math, science and English.

The annual Life Chains in the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux will be held on Respect Life Sunday, October 6, 2019, from 2–3 p.m. (rain or shine). This is a peaceful and prayerful public witness of pro-life Americans standing for one hour praying for our nation and for an end to abortion. 

The annual diocesan Blue Mass will be celebrated Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Cathedral of St. Francis de Sales in Houma, at 11 a.m., by Bishop Shelton J. Fabre. The annual diocesan Red Mass will be celebrated Friday, Oct. 11, at the Cathedral of St. Francis de Sales in Houma, at 11:30 a.m., by Bishop Shelton J. Fabre.

As we continue to be vigilant for the effects of Hurricane Dorian, we are extremely mindful of the dire need faced by the community in the Bahamas so devastated by this catastrophic storm. The Catholic Foundation of South Louisiana announced today the first endowment to provide Catholic elementary school tuition assistance to its families. Named in memory of Nell Talbot Legendre, Catholic elementary school principals can request grant funds for tuition assistance for students starting in the spring of 2020.

Nicole Bourgeois, Ph.D., LMFT, has been named as the new executive director for Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux, effective April 1. She will replace Robert Gorman, who is retiring June 30, 2019, after 37 years of service to the diocese.

“Open Wide Our Hearts Against Racism:  A Listening Session,” will be held in the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux, beginning at 6 p.m., Thursday, March 28 at the diocesan Pastoral Center in Schriever. 

Jon J. Toups, a Napoleonville, LA native and proud graduate of Nicholls State University, has joined the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux, effective March 1, as the Chief Operating and Financial Officer.

The Louisiana Conference of Catholic Bishops strongly affirms the November 6th ballot initiative to return Louisiana to a state possessing unanimous juries, and therefore enabling its legal practices to become more truly reflective of justice.

The Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux's Educators Conference is being held at EDW tomorrow as scheduled. Students do not report to their schools tomorrow for this annual event.
