Bishop Shelton Fabre and Superintendent of Catholic Schools, Suzanne Troxclair, announce that the Catholic Schools of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux will return to in-class instruction in August for the 2020-2021 school year.  

Ginny Medina-Hamilton, a 1991 Vandebilt Catholic High School graduate, has been appointed principal of her alma mater effective for the 2020-2021 school year, it has been announced by Suzanne Troxclair, Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux. Medina-Hamilton spent the last three years as the Director of Gifted, Talented, and Arts Education in the St. Charles Parish Public Schools system. 

The Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux is actively preparing for the safe return to our schools in August for the 2020-2021 school year.

Due to the ongoing conditions associated with Tropical Storm Cristobal, all diocesan business offices will be closed tomorrow, Monday, June 8, 2020.

Bishop Shelton Fabre has announced that the celebration of outdoor masses will be allowed this upcoming weekend, May 9th and 10th, in the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux. This decision comes days after Governor John Bel Edwards announced that he would allow outdoor religious celebrations, and the state fire marshal issued strict guidelines for the liturgies. 

In light of the governor’s latest proclamation and his plans for the upcoming implementation of gradual phases of changes to the Stay at Home order, our high school leaders have been working diligently behind the scenes with the Catholic Schools Office to offer the most meaningful and traditional baccalaureate celebrations possible and have prayerfully determined the rescheduling of our Catholic high school graduations.

In compliance with the emergency statewide proclamation issued by Governor John Bel Edwards dated April 15, 2020, Bishop Fabre and Superintendent Suzanne Troxclair are announcing the continuation of distance learning in all Catholic schools in the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. The diocesan decision is in full alignment with Wednesday’s statedirective ordering the closure of all public schools in our state. 

 Jeremy Gueldner, who has been serving as principal of Vandebilt Catholic High School for the past four years, has been appointed as the school’s next president effective for the 2020-2021 school year, it has been announced by Suzanne Delaune Troxclair, Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux.

The Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux is celebrating our Catholic Schools this week, January 26 - February 1.

WASHINGTON—The president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Archbishop José H. Gomez of Los Angeles, has issued a statement following the earthquakes in Puerto Rico and the reported aftermath of infrastructure and property damage.

Representatives of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux announced today that the Mary and Al Danos Family Foundation has granted the diocese $150,000 for the purchase and implementation of a new financial management system, replacing accounting software that is now nearing 20 years old.

This past week, Bishop Fabre traveled to Rome with other bishops from the Louisiana area to meet with Pope Francis and present a report on the state of our diocese. This was Bishop Fabre's first time meeting with Pope Francis.

 The results of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux’s #iGiveCatholic are in! With more than 1,600 donors, a total of $461,368 was raised for our local community during the 24-hour online giving event held on #GivingTuesday (December 3, 2019). The Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux raised the second highest figure of all Louisiana dioceses, and was ranked within the top ten nationally.
